About Us

Who We Are

Prairie Vista Eye & Optical is a two doctor optometric practice offering comprehensive vision examination services for adults and children. Our clinic offers pre-operative and post-operative care for cataracts, glaucoma, and Lasik refractive surgery.

Emergency services are available 24 hours a day and include treatment of foreign body, corneal ulcers, corneal abrasions, eye infections and sudden loss of vision.

Dr. Ryan Farrar and Dr. Liz Fieser fit most types of contact lenses, including hard to fit, disposable, bifocal, toric for astigmatism, rigid and colors.

Tiffany Nightingale, is our vision therapist providing vision therapy and rehabilitation services. Vision Therapy is especially useful in treating children's vision deficits which cause reading problems due to tracking, teaming and/or focusing problems.

Our optical department offers fashion designer eyewear including Oakley, Coach, Michael Kors, Ray Ban, Nike, Ted Baker, GX/Lamb, Michael Ryen, Scott Harris and many others. Our optical lab can fit special order lenses including progressives (no line bifocals), transitions lenses, safety glasses, computer lenses, and high index lenses (thin lens design). Our opticians edge lenses in-house. Most single vision glasses can be manufactured in an hour. Free adjustments are available by walk-in or appointment.

Our optometric practice was started in Liberal by Dr. Jim Parsons in 1965. The practice was purchased by Dr. Jim Jury in 1988. Dr. Jeff Hill practiced with Dr. Jim Jury during the 1990's. Dr. Ryan Farrar purchased the practice from Dr. Jim Jury in 2005. Dr. Liz Fieser joined the practice in 2013. In 2021, the clinic was renamed Prairie Vista Eye & Optical, PA as a more appropriate fit for the region--"Prairie"--and demographic--"Vista" meaning "Vision" in Spanish.

Our Professionals

Dr. Ryan Farrar, Optometrist

Dr. Ryan Farrar, originally from Hugoton, KS, received his Doctorate of Optometry in 2000 from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK.  He conducted graduate research at NSUCO dealing with children's vision, vision therapy and attention deficit disorders.  Prior to coming to Liberal, Dr. Farrar was in private practice in Emporia, KS, where he was coordinator of the Flinthills Eyecare Associates Vision Therapy Clinic and a researcher in the State of Kansas Vision Therapy Research Study.

In addition to providing general optometric services, Dr. Farrar specializes in pediatric vision, specifically a division of optometry known as behavioral vision. Behavioral optometrists examine not only the eye structure and health, but also visual function and how vision affects a child's learning. Dr. Farrar treats individuals who have problems with eye teaming, tracking, focusing, crossed eyes and lazy eye through a treatment program known as Vision Therapy. Untreated, many of these eye problems can lead to reading problems, attention deficit-like symptoms, dyslexic-like symptoms, poor depth perception and/or poor hand-eye coordination.

Dr. Farrar is in the office Tuesday through Friday.
